7200 rpm for a NAS drive, which WD Red is technically designed for, is almost an oxymoron. Unless you are on 2.5 Gbps setup, a 5400 rpm drive will effectively use up all the network bandwidth on sustained read/write. If you care about burst read/write speed, then why bother with a HDD on the first place.

It's just a test, people. To HELP people...the helpful people and the unhelpful people. It's to help you know if it is covid or just a cold while you're home...before you drive to get a pcr test to confirm it. Before you walk around pretending it is just a cold, spreading covid to everyone else. My family used the tests and they were 100% accurate, as confirmed by pcr tests. It is as simple as following directions. Perhaps too complicated for the magic 8 ball guy.

Common cold and flu are also caused by coronavirus, which are close family to Sars-Cov2. Many mutations in new Omicron variant actually exist in common cold and flu coronaviruses. //@anonymous: Uh, these at home tests generate a 15% false negative rates and 1 to 2% false positive rates. This is my experience as well. I used these to test my kid twice and the results came out negative. The next day he did a PCR test it was positive. //@anonymous: Our school district is giving these for free. But it is completely useless with such an accuracy.

No. WalMart agreed to 180 days of fixed cost to sell these. Now they said they need to make profit on it for logistical purposes. I listened to the earning call. They are scammers. //@anonymous: Yeah, that's because the gov. Contract with wally world and Kroger has ended which paid a portion of tht tests //@anonymous: Has the price increased from $14?

If one believes the study (which one should), then let’s understand and believe it in it’s entirety. The study says that SENSITIVITY of BINAX NOW tests is HIGH.
Specifically, the SENSITIVITY when compared to a culture test (where virus is grown from the sample and is a much better but more time-consuming than even RT-PCR test) was HIGH (> 70%) and the Positive and Negative PREDICTIVE values were high (ie test is valuable - 100%, 92.7% respectively) even for asymptomatic cases INCLUDING for those that developed symptoms within 7 days of testing.
See “ For participants who were within 7 days of symptom onset, the BinaxNOW antigen test sensitivity was 71.1% (95% CI = 63.0%–78.4%), specificity was 100% (95% CI = 99.3%–100%), PPV was 100% (95% CI = 96.4%–100%), and NPV was 92.7% (95% CI = 90.2%–94.7%).”
The paper further advocates use of serial testing to tighten above based on additional factors - eg negative tests in high-risk environments should be confirmed with serial / confirmatory tests. It also recommends continued use of precautions as far as possible - distancing, masking, isolation even for those testing negative to mitigate personal and community transmission risk.
The tests are valuable when access to more accurate tests is challenged (like now) due to many reasons including stress on more accurate lab testing personnel and equipment. //@anonymous: You should READ the study, specifically the CDC one. In that study one of the things they test is is people who TESTED POSITIVE from the PCR test (which they confirmed with a second), and this kit STILL returned false negatives. And as I quoted directly, terrible sensitivity especially for asympomatic cases. So to summarize, even people whom we KNOW to have the virus, STILL tested falsely using these test kits. //@Anonymous: It's just a test, people. To HELP people...the helpful people and the unhelpful people. It's to help you know if it is covid or just a cold while you're home...before you drive to get a pcr test to confirm it. Our school district is giving these for free. But it is completely useless with such an accuracy. //@anonymous: Look like it's actually worse than a Magic 8-Ball. //@anonymous: This test kit was constantly out of stock up until the FDA announced yesterday that they're only about 50% effective in detecting Omicron! And now all of a sudden they become available! How cool is that!
With 50% chance of telling me the right result I might as well throw a coin, that's 50% too! It will give me the result in a second and I save $14!!!

It will show positive if a person is infectious, ie there are enough virus in the body to infect others. Person is just infected and virus is cooking inside, there may not be enough antigen to show up. But PCR will. This test will help a person to know if he/she is infectious and stop spreading.
Magic ball person, quit your useless comments.
